Community guidelines

These standards are published before the forum opens so members can see how safety, privacy and moderation will work.

Current status: public posting is not enabled. No member accounts, profiles, threads or comments are active on this release.

What the community is for

The QLD Renters community is intended for practical, respectful discussion between people renting in Queensland. Members may compare preparation steps, ask where to find an official source and share an anonymised experience that helps someone understand a process.

It is not a replacement for the Residential Tenancies Authority, QCAT, QSTARS, a community legal centre or independent legal advice. A reply from another member is not a ruling, representation or guarantee about your circumstances.

Our core standards

Stay factual

Describe what happened, when it happened and what document or message you received. Separate what you know from what you suspect.

Protect privacy

Remove names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, signatures, reference numbers and identity documents before sharing an example.

Keep it useful

Ask one clear question, include the relevant dates and say what kind of next step would help. Do not present another member's reply as legal advice.

Disagree without abuse

Challenge an idea, not a person. Threats, harassment, hate, sexualised abuse and attempts to expose someone will not be part of the community.

Do not post

Content in any of the following groups will be removed or restricted, and an account may be suspended or closed when the risk is serious or repeated.

  • Threats, intimidation, harassment, hate or encouragement of harm.
  • Doxxing, private contact details, identity documents, signatures or unredacted tenancy files.
  • Unverified allegations or naming-and-shaming of an identifiable renter, owner, agent or business.
  • Spam, scams, impersonation, repeated promotions or attempts to manipulate votes or reports.
  • Requests for individual legal representation, emergency intervention or instructions to break the law.

Discussing owners, agents and businesses

People may need to describe a communication or process problem, but the forum must not become a public naming-and-shaming list. Use role-based or anonymous wording, quote only what is necessary and describe the observable event. Do not publish a person's name, property address, phone number, email address, licence details or an allegation that you cannot support.

For example, “The agent sent an entry notice on Tuesday and I am unsure which reason applies” is safer and more useful than accusing an identifiable person or business of criminal or dishonest conduct. The moderation team may edit, hide or remove a post while it is checked.

How moderation will work

  1. Report: a member can flag a post or message and choose a reason.
  2. Triage: moderators review safety, privacy, relevance and possible defamation risk.
  3. Action: content may be left visible, edited with a record, hidden while checked, removed or escalated.
  4. Account response: repeated or serious breaches may lead to a warning, posting restriction, suspension or ban.
  5. Appeal: members will have a private route to explain a moderation decision or provide missing context.

Moderation records should be proportionate, access-controlled and retained only for as long as the safety or legal purpose requires. Emergency threats or immediate danger should go to emergency services, not a forum report queue.

Privacy and personal documents

Never upload an identity document, signature, complete tenancy agreement, rent ledger, bank detail, unredacted notice or private message. Redact names, addresses, reference numbers, barcodes, signatures and contact details before sharing a small excerpt. If a question can be asked without an image, text is safer.

Before accounts or member content are activated, the privacy policy will be updated with the actual provider, data collected, retention periods, moderation access and member choices. This release does not collect forum registrations or posts.

Advertising and community content

The current website is ad-free. If advertising is introduced later, pending, reported or disputed user content must not be placed beside Google-served ads until moderation and ad-suppression controls are operational. Community rules, privacy disclosures and the advertising setup must be reviewed together before launch.

Report a concern

When the forum opens, its report controls will be the preferred route for a post-specific concern. For a site correction, accessibility problem or serious pre-launch community concern, use the contact page. Do not send identity documents or a complete tenancy file by email.
